My entire life it has felt like one day I will wake up and be 50. “Life is short” has been a saying repeated from all angles. From my perspective - the perspective of a 24-year-old who intellectually knows he is young but feels old - to call life short has only recently began to ring true.
When people look back on 10 years ago and utter the words “time flies” it is often due to an apparent recognition of who you previously were and what you were doing. To be able to relate to that person separated by a 10-year-span must be sickeni...

We all have ideas. Whether those ideas determine the next meal we eat, thing we wear, or place we go, ideas are plentiful when navigating through life. In the case of the latter, an idea may often be in regards to some wholly new venture you have un...

We all have our favourite artists. Whether they paint, direct, write, perform, act, or all of the above, there are certain types of artists that appeal to us in a way that inspire devotion to their every move in their chosen field. You don’t necessarily have to like every move they make. Sometimes the artist makes a misstep - a bad album, movie, book, whatever - but it doesn’t necessarily knock...
This Is Water By David Foster Wallace: The Commencement Speech Heard All Over The World

“There are two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says ‘Morning, boys. How’s the water?’ And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes ‘What the hell is water?” Thus begins one of - if not the - greatest commencement speeches ever delivered. At a graduation cere...

God made Bukowski as an experiment. He gave him insight, wisdom and the gift of lanugage, but deliberately offset it with alcoholism, belligerence and a season in hell as a child, at the hands of his father. One of the best and most honest writers ever to breath. Who carried a joke that God played on him on his shoulders. Read his fiction. Read his poetry.

I really hate how we take everything an artist who ended their life wrote as a clue for why they did it. People like Curtis, Elliott Smith, and Nick Drake were complex individuals and treating their art like it’s just a confessional diary is very disrespectful.

I read The Bachman Books, funnily enough, when I was in the psych ward for SI with Rage being the first story I read in the book. I remember thinking it was a wild book to have in the psych ward, where there were multiple people with homicidal ideations, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I can think of no greater gift on one's deathbed than to be read of forward about how you affected the artistic life of a great novelist, do you suddenly find out your art eas such an inspiration when you go on your whole life thinking that it hadn't mattered must be a great comfort as you reach your last days

I read Ask the Dust years ago. It is a poingant work, especially to a wanna- be novelist, as I was at the time....... But it was certainly way ahead of its time I can see how it wasn't widely popular, then or now........ It gave me, an American version of Notes from The Underground vibes

I read my first Stephen King novel far too early, my mum was, and still is, a big fan. I stole one she’d read and ploughed through it! After that first read I was hooked, at 11/12 I was fascinated, now at 36 I sleep with a nightlight 😅 He doesn’t just get into your head, he gets into your bones, your DNA. One of my favourite writers of all time!

A REAL Zen Master, Bukowski doesn't let anyone idolize him. He knocks him down, spits on him, and calls him weak and stupid for having a slob, and a drunkard as a ''hero.'' So the pointy bearded, alcoholic Alan Watts, all hip slick and cool looks like the Cambridge fop and jackass that he was when he sports his Buddha beads and Nehru jacket. The shaved headed D.T. Suzuki swans around wealthy in silk robes with his shaved head and the pretense of enlightenment, but he can't find reality with both hands holding his bank book. Bukowski is a pure source.

Being now in my 70's of lifelong learning, experience, observation, creativity, understanding, re-examination 24/7 365. The doorway to creative utopia exists, as does the doorway to cerebral dystopia. It is a revolving doorway that is both the entrance and exit to each 'topia' where the conscious cognoscentient being must choose one or the other to spend periods of residence, periods that eventually blend into an existence that only reveals itself in the creative act. Love always T.

My beliefs are that it’s from some sort of frustration or distraction going on in a person’s life. It’s harder to think and write if you have so many other things you have to handle. I’ve noticed when I’m in school I’m simply not as strong as a writer as I am in the summer.

Dont think martin has a writer block, he produced in this years two book in the universe, and all the lore for elden ring and works on a lot of other stuff too. I think his writing process is just to specific and slow, he already said that for the mereenese knot he wrote 3 versions of quentins arrival to mereen, and that was to give an example, he probably wrote a lot more chapters that never made to the final book. For the winds of winter i think he will have a lot more of that, he has so many caracters joining up, so he can write not just a lot of versions of how the story goes but a lot of this versions being told by a lot of different caracters, so he has a lot of work not just to see how is the better way for the story to go but which caracter better fits to tell a certain part of the story. That why he is taking so long, he is writing not just one book but several books at once and diferent versions of wich one of this books. And thats whats make his books amazing. And people forget that feast and dance are exentialy the same books, so took him 10 years to write it more or less, so he is not writing slower his story just got a lot more complicated to write with his writing process
